Amano Shrimp (Caridina multidentata) – Your aquascape's essential ally
The Amano Shrimp (Caridina multidentata, formerly Japonica) is the undisputed queen of aquarium cleaning. Popularized by Takashi Amano, it is essential for eliminating undesirable algae (especially filamentous algae) and keeping the decor, mosses, and aquatic plants a vibrant green.
Very active, robust, and peaceful, it spends its days exploring the substrate and hardscape in search of nutrients.
Scientific name: Caridina multidentata
Origin: Japan / Taiwan
Adult size: Up to 4-5 cm for females
Diet: Omnivorous with an algivorous tendency (algae, biofilm, food remnants)
Reproduction: Impossible in freshwater (larvae require a brackish water stage), which avoids any risk of overpopulation.
💧 Recommended care parameters
Reared in optimal conditions, our Amano shrimp easily adapt to most freshwater aquariums:
Parameter:
Temperature: 18°C to 26°C (ideally 22-24°C)
PH: 6.5 to 7.5
GH: 6 to 12 °dGH
KH: 2 to 8 °dKH
Nitrates: < 20 mg/L
🌿 Aquascaping tip: We recommend keeping them in groups of at least 5 to 10 individuals so that they feel secure and exhibit natural and effective algae-eating behavior.
